Over the weekend it was my friend’s birthday. He wanted to do a Seattle adventure and check out some delicious restaurants and bars. He suggested Poquitos are our first stop so we could fill our bellies! I highly recommend Poquitos on Capitol Hill for yummy Mexican food in downtown Seattle.

Traveling to Seattle is easier now that we have the Link Rail Station. We decided to park at the Northgate Station and ride the train to Capitol Hill. Poquitos is South of the Capitol Hill Station past Cal Anderson Park – it’s a busy place! The restaurant is right in the heart of Capitol Hill, which is the perfect location.

Poquitos is brightly decorated and lively! There are two bars, both distinctly decorated. Inside is warm with stunning lights and Talavera tiles that bring the restaurant to life. We sat in the open-air atrium which was bright and fun. It reminds me of when I visited Mexico a few years ago.

We started the evening with the Salsa Trio which includes pico de gallo, tomato jalapeño salsa, and tomatillo salsa, served with chips. The pico de gallo was superb!

To kick off the celebrations, we also grabbed a few cocktails. From left to right is the OG Poquitos Margarita with a salt rim, the Guava Ginger Margarita with a lavender salt rim (it wasn’t a strong flavor,) and the Prickly Pear Margarita with a hibiscus peppercorn salt rim.

The birthday boy ordered these amazing Al Pastor Tacos. They are marinated and grilled pork, topped with an avocado salsa, pineapple,
diced onion, and cilantro Served on the size is a very spicy habanero hot sauce with rice and beans.

The rest of us had their enchiladas! You can choose from a suiza (verde tomatillo-cream) or roja (red) salsa for your enchilada. They have chicken or cheese for the filling. It is made with local white corn tortillas. It is topped with house-made queso, onion, cilantro, cotija, and a Cilantro oil. This is served with rice and beans on the side.

Everything was delicious and the service was spectacular.

If you’re in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle, visit Poquitos for a bite to eat or a cocktail to freshen up!
